SIDEWALK OBSTACLE COURSE

Brighton District Library, Michigan, USA

By Laurie Walters, Youth Services Librarian

How has this library supported healthy living?
Thanks to inspiration Let’s Move in Libraries, we created an obstacle course on the front sidewalk of our library.  We also have instituted “active passive programs” in our garden this summer like posting yoga poses, exercises, etc.

Here is our YouTube video introducing the obstacle course.

What impacts have you seen this work have?
Families are enjoying the chance to take part in in-person library activities again after a long lull from pandemic restrictions.

Lessons learned: Draw upon the wisdom of other library professionals, and adopt programs like this one that have been offered successfully in other communities.

Use all modalities to get the word out about your amazing programs, including YouTube!

Share back your successes with platforms like Let’s Move in Libraries to keep the momentum going.
