Physical Literacy for Adults

Minocqua Public Library, Wisconsin, USA

How has this library supported healthy living?
We have seen a great response to our fitness classes offered at the library and try to have a session available for each season.

Strength: Strong Bodies class taught by our staff in the Spring/Fall

Cardio: Winter Walking group in the community gym

Flexibility/Stretching: Tai Chi in the Park in the Summer

What impacts have you seen this work have?

We have a large retired/senior population in our area and having a range of physical literacy programs (strength-cardio-flexibility)  help keep these community members active and engaged.

Lessons learned: Tailor your programs to community needs. If your community has a large population of older adults, strive to serve them and their physical literacy needs.

Use the Let’s Move in Libraries Logo. It’s free and it can communicate to your community that your programs are part of an international movement.

Offer different programs in different seasons.
