Hill Library & Cornerstone VNA
The Hill Library, Strafford, New Hampshire, partnered with Cornerstone VNA to offer caregiver support and services for older adults. The partnership centers on supporting caregivers and providing a space for conversation and information-sharing.
The collaboration began when the library reached out to Cornerstone VNA to design programming for caregivers, recognizing growing needs as the population ages. The initial outreach was driven by a desire to offer targeted support and to connect families with health and caregiving resources.
Since starting roughly three years ago (ca. 2023), the partners have developed a recurring caregiver support group with rotating topics, regular feedback loops, and shared promotion. Cornerstone VNA helps provide expertise and content while the library offers space and community connections. Cornerstone VNA has also presented many pertinent programs for the community, including sponsoring a Community Drumming Circle.
Impacts reported include emotional and informational support for caregivers, stronger local networks, and practical benefits such as referrals to resources and potential grant guidance for the library. Anecdotal examples include participants who received timely support after sharing urgent caregiving concerns during meetings and a feeling of community with other caregivers. This organization helps the Hill Library reach out to the town and beyond to bring older citizens information, support and care during the difficult season of caregiving.
In an international context, this partnership demonstrates how libraries can serve as neutral, accessible conveners for health- and aging-related support — a model that other communities can adapt to connect informal caregivers with professional support.
